Children Are Not Pawns in Divorce

Share
Last week's vacation went relatively well. My daughter and her fiancé and I had a great time together. The only disturbing part was when my ex violated our divorce decree and hid my 16 year old son in another state so that we couldn't speak with each other. When I returned my daughter and future son-in-law back to their home this past weekend, there was my ex --- all smiling and of good cheer like the person of ill repute that she is. My son was upset because of our missed time together. When he and I were finally alone with each other, he confided that he wants to move away from her more than ever. Sadly, he doesn't think he could handle his mother's drama while waiting for the courts allowed his move. At this point, he seriously considering waiting out the next 13 months until he was 18 and then able to escape to my home. I can only support him in whatever way he needs me to.

What my ex doesn't seem to get is that she has now completely lost the respect of her children. What little love for her that they have left is being further whittled away by her continued selfish actions. I hope she realizes this soon and it torments her for the rest of her life.

What to Get My Ex For Her Birthday?

Share
In spite of my former spouse's shenanigans -- her childish actions and inactions -- I think that I've done a pretty good job of not conveying my frustrations with her. Our children think that I've been too civil with her. Maybe they are right.

She has a birthday coming up. Since it is August, I am tempted to send her a pile of snow along with a note, "Do you get my drift, you flake? I just wanted to remind you how your selfishness melted away a good thing."

Bitter? Oh no, I'm not bitter! Well, perhaps a tad so. It's just troubling that, 30 months after the divorce decree, she is still interfering with my life and my finances. I am so disappointed that this 53 year-old won't tend to her responsibilities. When I first married her, I thought that we would grow old together. I didn't know that I would be spending much of our marriage trying to help her grow up. Now that we are divorced, all I can do is wait and hope...

Another Chapter In Life

Share
The time I spent last week with my youngest son was long overdue. Now that he's 16, we were able to have several heart-to-heart talks that weren't possible when he was younger. As I look at this gangly youth who now towers over me, I hope to have planted some seeds of success in his mind.

This is the time in his life of social awareness. So one of his biggest concerns was how hormones are ravaging his face. Fortunately, his mother has bought him a natural acne treatment. Surprisingly, she hasn't gone so natural as to include sandpaper, sterilized needles and an avoidance of zitti pasta.

And that would be his second biggest concern -- his mother. While I have maintained that he needed to respect her because she is his mother, he's finally realizing the type of person she is and why I had to divorce her a few years ago. Hopefully, he will make some better choices for his life because of our time together.

a disappointing package

Share
The moment I arrived home today, I was greeted by a happy UPS guy. Not the same as being greeted by a loving puppy but the fact that he had an unexpected package for me made me feel very happy just the same. That is until I got inside and opened this cardboard box of a surprise. Inside I discovered a box of ... female vitamins? A quick glance at the invoice slip and I learned that my ex had ordered these. While the invoice has her current home address, there was a second label on top of the original shipping label on the box. I have no idea why the vitamin company overlaid her home address with a label addressed to my home.

Now, that me say that I am glad that she is ordering something healthy. Although a box of Tenuate diet pills would certainly help her more. But that's not my worry any longer. And I shouldn't worry about this misdirected shipment either. Still, I can't help but wonder what is going on.

I Learned Some Sad News

Share
Last Friday, a good friend of mine told me about news that he received. Earlier in the week, his wife of ten years gave him an emotion and spiritual kick-to-the-groin. She told him that she had been cheating on him and wanted a divorce. My friend was still in a state of shock and hurt as he told me this. And because he is a great guy, the kind I would trust marrying one of my sisters, he is going to let her get away with her treatment of their marriage. He doesn't want alimony or child support for their young son. He is assuming fully responsibility for all of their debt. I can fully understand that he only wants her to go so he can get on with building a life for his son and himself. Hopefully, he will get a lawyer quickly and protect his family. In any case, he should not have to undergo the upcoming heartaches that I know are going to come.
